EISIGE VISIONEN

While in Friedrich's work the Arctic Ocean defeats man, in this version man conquers nature and sprawls on one of the last ice floes under a patio heater. Whether or not nearly extinct penguins equip the view is irrelevant, when there is an almost infinite selection of virtual animals available.
The MS Paint window visualizes the idea of a digitized nature with which humans are no longer in connected; a nature that is romanticized, but rather in front of the screen than on one's own doorstep.
Friedrich's iconic motif is distorted to the point of a cliché. A cliché with a Picasso signature that makes it clear once again: here it no longer matters who painted the picture. The only thing that counts is that it is a famous picture by some famous artist. This unpleasant reality gives the picture its title:
“UNTITLED_PAIN”
acrylic, oil and canvas collaged on canvas,
200x190cm, 2023
“Eisige Visionen” (group), Barlach Halle K, Hamburg, 2023

Caspar David Friedrich's famous motif becomes the setting for a consumerist 21st century. Embedded in the iconic Arctic landscape are various banalities of everyday life. The (almost) perfect nature is upgraded with consumer icons of Western culture.
